In 2021, as communities across Canada grappled with the impact of COVID-19, Mazda Canada stepped up with a powerful initiative—pledging up to $1 million to help reopen iconic small businesses nationwide. Through a national call for community nominations, deserving businesses were selected and supported as part of the Mazda Local Legends program. To amplify the campaign across social platforms, documentary-style videos were produced, spotlighting three selected business owners and their advocates. One story gained national attention, with a featured business owner appearing on Breakfast Television to share how the program helped her business survive. To celebrate the recipients, custom-designed “Mazda Local Legend” open signs were also distributed to participating businesses, symbolizing resilience and community pride.
